Our Mission

Serve Students

As class sizes continue to grow, teachers are increasingly faced with an impossible task – though they may be teaching a 9th Grade math class, the variance in understanding of the material amongst their students can range widely – how does one present concepts in a way such that struggling students don’t fall behind and students that are excelling are still challenged? This is often the reason why students of both groups seek out extra-curricular academic support, however, access to high-quality tutoring is far from universal. We aspire to change that.

The mission of Care for Students is to empower the next generation of driven public-school students, particularly those of low-income and underrepresented backgrounds, through intimate and engaging, small-group tutoring. Our aim is to support both classrooms and students through our four-pillars: curriculum focused weekly remote tutoring that provides extra attention to students, feedback to help educators tailor the topics they focus on in their classrooms, measured outcomes to track our progress, and targeted philanthropy to support pre-existing programs at schools.

We would love for you to be a part of this pursuit

Our Core Values

Care for Students’ core values are grounded in the pursuit of success for our students, our teachers, and our volunteers.

Empower Others

We are here to serve. The impact of one individual is small, but by empowering students and the people invested in their success; we aim to create a chain of empowerment to multiply our effort exponentially.

Cultivate & Direct Empathy

We are a community driven by compassion and empathy. We seek to cultivate this empathy further in those around us, and direct it for maximum impact towards improving life outcomes through education for our students.

Design, Implement, Measure, Repeat

What differentiates Care for Students is our culture of experimentation. The education system is dynamic and success means operating in uncertainty, taking initiative, thoughtfully testing hypotheses and being resilient.

Choose Optimism

We believe in choosing optimism. For our students, volunteers, and organizers, believing that we can be the change we want to see around us is energizing. By taking the perspective that problems are solvable, and marrying that with the pragmatism to create a plan to drive forward we can make an impact in education.

Focus On Impact

We acknowledge that the current education system is not always able to meet the needs of all students.  We want to target and tailor this program to benefit these students, those of low income or underrepresented backgrounds, in particular. To excel in this we must understand the specific needs of these individuals, and carry out our program with their interests at heart.
